Christmas is finally approaching which thougth alone is enough to make me peaceful. I love lazy days staying inside watching movies and reading books. I guess everybody has a special Christmas movie, the one movie that alone can bring Christmas so close to the heart and make snow fall if not outside then in our minds. For me that movie is Edward Scissorhands. It hasn't been 'my' Christmas movie for long, perhaps just a couple of years, but now I won't call it Christmas before I've seen it at least once. Sometimes even I want to save it so I can watch it on Christmas eve or Christmas day.

Enough babbling about me, on with the movie! First off, I guess it is not your traditional Christmas movie, but I guess you knew that? Johnny Depp plays Edward (not Cullen!) who has scissors instead of hands. Although he has trouble fitting in, eventuelly he finds himself a place in the pastel/plastic community he starts to live in. There he meets lovely Winona Ryder (which we all know was Johnny's girlfriend at the time!!) who falls madly in love with him.

I think this is one of the movies that reflects Tim Burton in a more personal way. It's about a person who finds himself alone and enstranged from other people because he is different. As Edward tries to adapt to other people as to be liked, he finds out how quickly people can turn from love to hate in an instant.

Watch it, it's a truly remarkable film!

The passenger

Kate, Johnny and Iggy

She is a passenger she tells me one late afternoon. She tells me about all that she sees. She tells me about birds without wings and sharks with no teeth and she tells me how everything is reduced to a blur of color as she rushes by, thousand miles an hour. She tells me about other worlds with other people. She talks about other thoughts and other skies. She describes the worlds with great detail. She asks me what I think. I think about how she has seen so much and done so little but I don't tell her because that is not what she wants to hear.

This is my inspiration wall. I'm running out of white wall very quickly as I add one more photo each day. Almost.

I can't explain myself, I'm afraid, Sir, because I'm not myself you see...
Alice

Dear Rosie is also hosting a wonderful giveaway on her blog where you can win one of these wonderful rings. They remind me very much of Alice in Wonderland. Check it out here. She has also opened up her own shop where you can buy those tea cup rings and other cute stuff: Rosie's etsy shop.

I'm very sorry for my bad commenting. Will make sure to be better tomorrow evening when I bring my coffee.

Too late both for movie wednesday and halloween but I present to you this lovely movie anyway.

And Sleepy Hollow (1999) is indeed lovely. It is one of my favourite "scary" movies. I've always been intrigued by the story of The Headless Horseman all the way since I saw the cartoon. Johnny Depp, Tim Burton and beautiful Christina Ricci make this movie beyond magical.

To be honest, it isn't much of a scary movie, it is too funny to be that despite some macabre scenes. Depp plays Ichabod Crane, a constable/doctor who is a little too faint hearted for his profession. Especially when it comes to using it to solve murders...

If you end up watching this movie, try to guess how many times our dear Johnny faints?

As we became older we slowly started to age.

It was not perfect. It was marred by what to come. What was really perfect was all that before that night. The summers, the wine, the smoke, the smiles, the laughter, the kissing, crying and cursing. The love we shared and the idea of eternity. Death was nothing and life was the same. It is only when we think of life as something that dies we become mortal. Those who don’t think they will die live forever.

Movie Wednesday: The imaginarium of doctor Parnasuss

I'm so excited about this movie! Lily Cole, Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp and Jude Law, all in the same movie. Incredible! The trailer is also out now and I really recommend seeing it, such a dreamy and wonderful world. You can see it here.

I still don't get why this is just shown on selected cinemas and not worldwide. Such a shame that some of us have to wait for the DVD to be out. Also the reviews overall hasn't been that great, but I'm sure I will enjoy this nontheless, did I mention Johnny Depp is in it?

Update: Sorry, just found out that The imaginarium of doctor Parnasuss is indeed distributed worlwide just at different dates. It is out in Norway the 4th of December and I'm sure the rest of the world will have premier dates long before that. I got confused because it has already premiered at some film festivals.

Comfortably numb

"It's like a card house you know," she says and folds her hands like a pyramid on the table to demonstrate. "Like that," she smiles while she thinks. "The whole house depends on each card and if one falls down," she puts her right hand down on the table, "the other falls too," her left hand follows the right. "But it's not like a card house can be built with only two cards, a life craves millions of cards. A life is hard to build that way. It takes time. And although it is so hard to build, it takes just a second to tear it down. Just like that," she slams her hands on the table making it shake like a tiny local earthquake. "But," and then she smiles one of her crooked smiles. "The cards are still there, although they are just a heap. So they can be built again and again. Do you want to know what the weird part is?"
I nod.
"When you build the house up again it will look just the same as the first time, just like the second time, third time and so on. Just the same. But it is not. It just appears to be the same but it is fundamentally different from the other times. The cards are stacked differently. A spades is where a heart was last time. A pair of diamonds holds up a pair of clubs when it should be the other way around. But still it looks the same. That's why most people don't know when people change and become something different. That's why people look the same but has grown to something else."
