It's going to end soon but this is not goodbye

Joel: I could die right now, Clem. I'm just... happy. I've never felt that before. I'm just exactly where I want to be.

I sometimes think that if Lacuna, Inc were real they would have made good money.

Movie Wednesday: Marie Antoinette

Photobucket

First: I know I say this about a lot of movies but I just can't help it. This is one of my favourite movies. I usually call this my guilty pleasure for some reason (and I hate that most people think of that as a negative). This is 100 % eye candy from start to credits, it's pink and it's sweet and absolutely amazing. Now, in comparison to Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette is very easy to find decent pictures from (rumours have it that this movie inspired the whole tumblr concept!!!) but I couldn't help myself from taking some own screenshots just to have an excuse to see my favourite parts of the movie all over again despite the fact that I saw the whole movie just some days ago, as I said, guilty pleasure.

As I am sure you all know, this is the latest movie by Sofia Coppola (also maker of Lost in Translation among other). What separates this movie from all other historical movies I have glued my eyes on is how Sofia magically blends modern day culture with old dusty history, you can even spot a pair of converse among all the shoes Marie tries on (like a Carrie Bradshaw of the 1700).

Having trays of candy, cakes and macaroons available while watching is advisable...

One of the first thing you notice about this movie is how Sofia has completely omitted the use of old fashioned music on her soundtrack. Instead you have music unheard of in the 1700-hundreds but that somehow, magically, couldn't fit the story any better.

This is from my favourite scene where the song "Fools rush in" plays in the background.

I love that the movie shows how things were so different long ago, and still some things never change regardless of time. But I have to admit, I mostly love it because of the pretty! No shame in that right? Me and my sister have a tendency to not watch the end though for reasons I'm sure those who know history is well aware of (that makes it more of a guilty pleasure, no?)

Oh wow, this became such a long post! Anyway, I really hope you watch this movie! It will make you dream about amazing costumes and cupcakes for sure :-)

A special treat for you today! My favourite movie of all times, at least the movie I have watched the most! I had such a hard time finding decent pictures from my favourite scenes which I find quite strange so I had to screencap them myself. Isn't this movie just perfection? I understand those who find this movie to be plotless or/and boring but I think it is quite the opposite. I love how this movie is stripped of anything close to a cliché, how the music helps create such a dreamy atmosphere. I love how it depicts two people being so lost in life even though they seem to have a perfect ones and how they, in the end, find love and comfort in each other.

Watch it and love it. I promise, if you give this movie time, it will be one of the best you have ever seen. In all honesty, I did hate it the first time I watched it.

Bob: I don't want to leave.
Charlotte: So don't. Stay here with me. We'll start a jazz band.

I wish you all an amazing Christmas. I'm sure I'll see you all before the new year settles in.

Christmas is finally approaching which thought alone is enough to make me peaceful. I love lazy days staying inside watching movies and reading books. I guess everybody has a special Christmas movie, the one movie that alone can bring Christmas so close to the heart and make snow fall if not outside then in our minds. For me that movie is Edward Scissorhands. It hasn't been 'my' Christmas movie for long, perhaps just a couple of years, but now I won't call it Christmas before I've seen it at least once. Sometimes even I want to save it so I can watch it on Christmas eve or Christmas day.

Enough babbling about me, on with the movie! First off, I guess it is not your traditional Christmas movie, but I guess you knew that? Johnny Depp plays Edward (not Cullen!) who has scissors instead of hands. Although he has trouble fitting in, eventuelly he finds himself a place in the pastel/plastic community he starts to live in. There he meets lovely Winona Ryder (which we all know was Johnny's girlfriend at the time!!) who falls madly in love with him.

I think this is one of the movies that reflects Tim Burton in a more personal way. It's about a person who finds himself alone and enstranged from other people because he is different. As Edward tries to adapt to other people as to be liked, he finds out how quickly people can turn from love to hate in an instant.

Watch it, it's a truly remarkable film!

Too late both for movie wednesday and halloween but I present to you this lovely movie anyway.

And Sleepy Hollow (1999) is indeed lovely. It is one of my favourite "scary" movies. I've always been intrigued by the story of The Headless Horseman all the way since I saw the cartoon. Johnny Depp, Tim Burton and beautiful Christina Ricci make this movie beyond magical.

To be honest, it isn't much of a scary movie, it is too funny to be that despite some macabre scenes. Depp plays Ichabod Crane, a constable/doctor who is a little too faint hearted for his profession. Especially when it comes to using it to solve murders...

If you end up watching this movie, try to guess how many times our dear Johnny faints?

Movie Wednesday: The imaginarium of doctor Parnasuss

I'm so excited about this movie! Lily Cole, Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp and Jude Law, all in the same movie. Incredible! The trailer is also out now and I really recommend seeing it, such a dreamy and wonderful world. You can see it here.

I still don't get why this is just shown on selected cinemas and not worldwide. Such a shame that some of us have to wait for the DVD to be out. Also the reviews overall hasn't been that great, but I'm sure I will enjoy this nontheless, did I mention Johnny Depp is in it?

Update: Sorry, just found out that The imaginarium of doctor Parnasuss is indeed distributed worlwide just at different dates. It is out in Norway the 4th of December and I'm sure the rest of the world will have premier dates long before that. I got confused because it has already premiered at some film festivals.

Movie Wednesday: The Royal Tenenbaums

Gwyneth Paltrow as Margot Helen Tenenbaum, The Royal Tenenbaums, 2001

One of the best black comedies. I think if you like Burn after reading you will like this one as well or the other way around. If you haven't watched either, watch both.

I have to admit though, that most of my love for this film boils down to one of the most fascinating characters ever written: Margot. She is amazingly weird and although her fashion sense is a bit eccentric she is no less of an inspiration to me.

And I'm very aware of the fact that it is technically not still Wednesday but I'll let you in on a secret: I count my days in when I wake up and when I go to sleep. It is very practical since I love being awake at night and asleep when everyone else rushes off to work.

Movie wednesday: Dead Man

Johnny Depp as William Blake, Dead Man, 1995

I have an obsession, like I'm sure many others, with Johnny Depp. He is not only perfect eye-candy, he is also one of the best skilled actors out there to date. His movie choices is often met by his wish to work with only the best whether it is actor, director (Tim Burton), or script.

Watching Dead Man some days ago, although I have watched it before, made me realize just how much I love this film. The scenography is amazing, each scene has it's own magic. I love how every still of the movie could be a masterpiece on it's own.

Now I desperately crave a faux fur coat for some reason...
